Princess Craftsmanship

Princess: A Luxury Yacht Builder

Since 1965, Princess Yachts, luxury yacht builder, have striven to deliver voyages of endless possibility to each and every customer, and continue to do so by building yachts to universal acclaim in the south west of England. With a detail-oriented culture of innovation, these yachts are not only some of the most technically-advanced in the world, but are also recognised as the most beautifully crafted, too.

Princess Yachts have shared with us a series of films which lift the lid on the craftsmanship, skill and passion that goes into each and every Princess yacht manufactured.

The Craftsmanship of Princess Yachts

As a luxury yacht builder, we know your yacht is an extension of yourself. A statement of your lifestyle. She needs to deliver unforgettable experiences for you, your family and friends. Every Princess yacht is designed with our forward-thinking mentality and crafted with meticulous attention to detail. So whether you’re dashing across the water or moored in your favourite bay, you will recognise the difference our design and details make, inside and out.

Sea Trials

The sixth episode to this suite of films provides insight into some of the 3,000 checks that the dispatch team carry out as part of the final Sea Trials on each and every luxury yacht.

The sea trials tend to take place in and around the stunning Plymouth sound, within close proximity to the factory itself. This stretch of sea gives a variety of sea conditions in which to truly put the yacht through its paces.

Mock-Ups

We invite you to take a behind-the-scenes look at the design and development of a Princess yacht. Alongside pioneering technologies, the design team use life sized (1:1 scale) plywood mock-ups to ensure each new Princess yacht is beautifully realised. This way of imagining new spaces and designs is something only seen in top luxury yacht builders, such as Princess.

The Loom Shop

Take a closer look at how we prepare the cables and wiring which supports the advanced engineering of each Princess yacht.

Once our team of naval architects, designers and engineers have determined a design, our craftspeople fastidiously bring it to life. Every beautiful detail is crafted and finished within our Plymouth shipyards. This enables us to consistently monitor quality throughout each build.

The Metal Shop

Perched on the edge of the English Channel lies the city of Plymouth, where Princess established it’s home over 50 years ago. Princess shipyards cover an area of over 1.1 million square feet, an area rich in British maritime heritage. In fact, South Yard, where the flagship X Class yachts are constructed, is a former naval yard dating back to the 17th century. Today, the city’s ship-building heritage continues at Princess Yachts with over 3,000 people, each possessing a mastery of their skill, sometimes passed down through the generations or gained through the highly regarded apprenticeship scheme.
